Second Passport & Citizenship.
Citizenship is the relationship between an individual and a sovereign state, defined by the law of that state and with corresponding duties and rights. A passport is a personal identification document, issued by a national government, which, for the purpose of international travel, certifies the identity and nationality of its holder. The elements of identity are name, date of birth, sex, and place of birth.
Why would somebody like to get a second passport? There are many valid reasons to consider acquiring an alternative second passport and citizenship. A second passport can open doors that otherwise would forever remain closed to you. Best of all, a second citizenship or second passport can serve as a key to reducing your tax burden and protecting your assets - or even your life. Some banks would not even open a bank account for you if you hold a passport of a “blacklisted” country. With an additional passport, you can open bank accounts in another country and enjoy higher privacy and more liberal rules and regulations. Above all, you can get benefits of mutual legal privileges of the country you chose to live or bank in.
You most likely need a second citizenship and second passport if your present nationality causes you one of the following problems:
- Your current passport restricts and limits your traveling and your government monitors and controls your movements;
- Your nationality limits your investment and entrepreneur abilities;
- Your government levies heavy taxation on your income, assets and capital worldwide;
- You want to change your country of residence and domicile;
- Your citizenship forces you and your children to serve in the army;
- You are a citizen of a very unpopular state causing negative attitude towards you;
- Your home country is politically unstable and you cannot be even sure that your passport will not be canceled or renounced at any time by the new coming governments;
- You want to insure your family against unforeseeable misfortunes;
There are many possibilities to acquire a second citizenship and a second passport. Principal grounds for acquiring citizenship and passport are birth within a certain territory, descent from a citizen parent, marriage to a citizen, and naturalization.
Besides several other requirements, acquiring alternative citizenship is usually possible after a certain period of residence in one country.
